ABOUT

I have an underlining passion for self sustainability and it comes through in my gardening, backyard chicken raising, and frugality in my every day living. I am constantly trying to improve level at which we function without depending upon others. I do understand the benefit of incorporating society into our lives as well. I love our community and being a part of it. But given the risk of completely relying on others to grow, produce and provide, I prefer to scale back and be completely in charge of what it is we actually need to buy, and what is in it, how its made... etc.
I have built a life over a sea of stormy waters and vast lands of lush paradise with my one and only. I am blessed with a very hard working and honest man who I can peer into the future side by side with. We have the same desires and goals and enjoy the same activities most of which are unorthodox yet we value that. Already I see this in our son who finds our old black pug just about the most amazing thing on earth!
I love the natural world and am lost without it. I love collecting and drying herbs and my own tea, I enjoy making my own products mostly from the plants in my garden, I love taking photos. I am learning the art of motherhood and how it is a lovely mess.
I come from a large family that values honesty and good cold hard humor. With 3 sisters you learn how to endure a certain level of continuous chaos, almost like a constant humming or flickering light that never goes away. But it trains you for life. You must give and take regularly for the unit as a whole to function. Never does the world evolve solely around you and your needs. You find a way to embrace these things and develop your own individuality amongst it. We 4 have grown into best friends. We all are different and have different dreams and tastes, but when we all are in the same room... nothing is better!
Currently I am balancing my love of decorating and the arts and reflecting that in my home and keeping it glowing with the art of minimalism and shedding all that is unnecessary and channeling a deeper purpose in this crazy mad world that I can be proud of.
I love the revelation of old craft. In other words, I am excited to be a part of a generation (or at least a group of my generation) who finds certain forgotten, simple traditions important once again. Like churning your own butter, sewing your own baby blankets and seeds for that matter! Raising and keeping chickens, or really... anything! This isnt just a trend, it is a rising of awareness of what comes into our homes and is consumed by our loved ones. Considering most mass produced products are riddled with chemicals and other low cost shortcuts we are taking matters into our own hands and staying local. Like really local. Like farmers markets and small mom and pop shops. Like my backyard! It is a fun and rewarding renewal of the old way of life!
So I try, between baby and life to share these aspects of our world in case you share a love of these sorts of things. Mostly I hope to look back on this blog and reminisce when my life is different, and feel gratitude for these little moments!
